G/S/C Walkthrough - Blackthorn City/Route 45 and 46/New Bark Town (Again)

Battle of the Badge

Clair is the gym leader of the Blackthorn Gym, probably the first place after the Pokemon Center that you will want to visit. This is the eighth and final badge for the Johto region, and is the final step to entering the Pokemon League. If you can't get into this gym because of a guy blocking it, you have forgotten to beat something earlier in the game.

Before you battle Clair, you'll have to push three boulders into holes to make a path over the molten lava below. Of course, you'll also be battling trainers.

Clair has dragon-type Pokemon, three Dragonair, and one Kingdra. You'll get $4000 for beating her. That's all. You won't be get the badge yet. You must first surf behind the gym to a cave called the Dragon's Den, and get an item called the Dragon Fang.

Dragon's Den

You'll need to get passed a whirlpool in order to get to the item, so you'll need a Pokemon with HM 06 - Whirlpool. After getting Dragon Fang, Clair will walk up to you the Rising Badge, and TM 24 - Dragonbreath. Now all Pokemon will obey you, and you'll be able to use Waterfall outside of battles.

In Crystal, it is different. You won't be getting the Dragon Fang. Instead, you'll enter a house, called the Dragon's Shrine. Inside, you'll be asked some questions having to do with Pokemon (the Trainer Challenge). These questions are quite easy if you really are a good Pokemon Trainer. If you get them smoothly, Clair will come and give you the badge.

If you go back into the Dragon Shrine and talk to the head sage, he'll give you a Dratini.

Exit Dragon's Den, and Professor Elm will call you. He tells you that he has something for you back at New Bark Town.

Two More Things

But before you leave, you can drop off a TM or HM from a Pokemon of yours in a house called the Move Deleter's House.

Next, you'll meet Santos on Saturday. He'll give you Spell Tag, it increases ghost-type attacks. Now it's time to go home!

Route 45 and 46

As you walk back to New Bark Town, you'll pass by Route 45 and 46. You'll meet a couple of trainers, and get some items. But be careful! Once you jump over a hill, you can't go back. This means you'll need to go all the way south. Below are the Pokemon that can be found on these two routes.

Home, Sweet Home!

You're finally back at New Bark Town! Go to Professor Elm's lab, and he'll give you a Masterball! After getting this and the Rainbow Wing, Silver Wing, or Clear Bell, you can go and catch one of the legendary Pokemon!

Legendaries

In order to capture Ho-oh, go back to Ecruteak City, and to the Tin Tower. You'll find Ho-oh on the rooftop, sitting in the sun, waiting for it to be captured. Save the game before you battle it, because there's only one of them! An Ultra Ball should be able to do the job.

In order to capture Lugia, go to the Whirl Islands, south of Olivine City. You'll need a Pokemon with Whirlpool, Surf, and Flash in order to get it. Lugia is also lv. 40 and will give you 1257 experience points if you beat it. But don't, I mean, why would you anyway? This is a legendary, after all.
