G/S/C Walkthrough - Azalea Town

Slowpoke Well

After exiting the tunnel, you'll see Team Rocket guarding a well (Slowpoke Well) and the gym. It seems that Team Rocket has kidnapped all the Slowpoke in town. First talk to Kurt in the house above the gym. Kurt will move the Team Rocket member guarding the well. Now, defeat the Rockets in the well. After that, the gym is finally open for you.

Later after you get HM 04 - Strength, return to the well and go to the lower level. Here, you'll find King's Rock. It inables you to evolve either Slowpoke or Poliwhirl when you attach it during a trade through another Gameboy. TM 18 - Rain Dance, is also there.

Kurt: Dude Who Makes Balls

Kurt will take you back to his house after you defeat the Rockets in the well and give you a Lure Ball, good for capturing Pokemon from a Rod (hook). He'll make you more special balls from Apricorns you've collected throughout the Johto region. Only one ball can be made per day. Below is a table that shows which balls can be made from which Apricorns and their location.

Fast Ball White Apricorn (next to Kurt's House in Azalea Town)
Lure Ball Blue Apricorn (one of the three plants on Route 37)
Heavy Ball Black Apricorn (one of the three plants on Route 37)
Level Ball Red Apricorn (one of the three plants on Route 37)
Moon Ball Yellow Apricorn (one of the three plants on Route 42)
Friend Ball Green Apricorn (one of the three plants on Route 42)
Love Ball Pink Apricorn (one of the three plants on Route 42)

The Hive Badge

The time has come for you to challenge Bugsy, Gym Leader of the Azalea Gym. He uses three bug Pokemon, which Cyndaquil will burn perfectly. Once you win, the Hive Badge is your's, and you'll be able to use Cut outside of battles. He'll also give you TM 49 - Fury Cutter. You'll also earn $1,600.

Rival's Return

Your rival is back for another match with you. You'll encounter him when you try to leave Azalea Town. This time it is harder than the first. You'll have to battle his Zubat and Gastly and his starter. It may be hard, but the prize, $960, is still worth it all.

Come Out, Togepi!

By now, Togepi should hatch. You can take Togepi all the way back to New Bark Town for Prof. Elm to see. He'll give you an Everstone (as mentioned in the beginning), which won't allow a Pokemon that is carrying the stone to evolve.
